I have a similar useless backtrace. The Ubuntu package is kmix. Which package should I load to get the debug symbols? I have the feeling that the root cause is not in kmix, but in ALSA on Ubuntu 8.10. There are sound problems in Gnome, which appeared after upgrading to 8.10. Sorry for telling you this in the KDE forum.
