Version: (using KDE 3.5.9) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages FLAC and other tags need to be able to catalogue a music collection thoroughly so users can use the information to full effect. I would like to see full use of Xiph's categories plus additional categories, and multi-tags as defined on a web page I put up for this purpose (see 2). This was mooted on my post to mailing list (1) 1: See: Mailing List Archive thread: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/amarok/2008-September/006735.html 2: I added details on this web page for clarity See; http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ea-bmb/Pages/Proposed%20Tagging%20Fields.html The web page at (2) shows xiph's and Amaroks current tags for flacs plus proposal for tag list.
Does anyone who is an ID3 expert know how these can translate into the ID3v2.4 standard? There are a lot of potential tags in there that Amarok isn't handling. Ideally, we would be able to find a way to map these tags to the ID3 standard. Mainly, all my music is in MP3 format and I'd feel jealous if just the FLAC users got fancy new taggers ;)
There is the TXXX (user text) frame in ID3, which is similar to Vorbis tags. It can be used (and is used) for this purpose. As for the mapping, it has to be configurable letting the user define (or at least use the default) tagging scheme. I must admit although, not many people even use the 'standard' tag fields, or use them in their own meaning, so developers may call this 'a rare needed and obscure feature' =)
