Description Mike E. 2008-08-23 00:33:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
Compiler: MSVC
OS: MS Windows
Installed from: Unspecified

The "Root" folder in the Places panel is linked to the main system folder (Generally C: on win32 systems). I have multiple drives, local and mapped network drives, that are not easily accessible. I can edit the location bar manually and get to them. I beleive the "Root" in the Places panel should be like the "My Computer" in windows explorer that list all the drives. Or the drives could be listed separately in the Places panel. I have tried to add these manually, but I receive an error similar to Bug 151407. It states that the disk is probably full just the same, and of course the disk isn't full. It is probably a permissions problem, but I am on Windows XP as a local administrator so I do have write access to the disk. Another issue is just like Bug 167850 which is that right clicking on a file opens it. By the looks of that bug report it may be a Win32 problem. I know that on my openSUSE 11 it works fine (different PC though). Also, clicking on an .exe or other executable opens a "run with" dialog rather than just starting the application. And lastly, this affects Dolphin on both my WinXP and my openSUSE, the awesome navigation bar has a problem with long directory listings. I have some directories that have hundreds of child directories. The problem is that not all of them will show on the screen at one time. What would be great would be to have a simple menu scrolling method to scroll through these subs. Even with these issues, I still prefer it to Windoze Explorer:)

I installed using the official windows binaries, but it appears there is a bug with bugzilla that doesn't let the platform be set to MS Windows so I just submitted it as unspecified.

A couple more things that I noticed that occur on windows only are: Move of files fails with an apparent permissions problem (logged in as local admin with full write access). The error states "Could not rename file..." The other error is that if I edit the location bar to an invalid path, it just shows an empty window and never gives an error of any kind. I would expect an error like "invalid path" or something similar.

Agreed. Replacing Root with Computer under Windows would make sense.

Moving files works fine for me on KDE 4.3, windows XP.
Also entering invalid path gives a red passive popup line below contents, stating the path does not exist.

Is this still an issue with KDE Frameworks 5.47 and Dolphin 18.04.x?
