Description juanjux 2008-07-01 23:26:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.83)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

If a try to assign a shortcut to the "popup menu" key, the one that is next to AltGr and Control on most keyboards, I can't do it because... a menu popups :-) on the assign key dialog, even when you've clicked on the button to capture a keypress

I'm used to use that key for the "expose" alike effect on beryl so now that I've switched to KDE4 I would like to have the same shortcut.

158913 was really two bugs in one and the main bug has been closed. Reopening because the bug reported here is still present.

Should not this be a bug instead of a wish?
Comment 5 Sergio Martins 2008-10-24 19:08:03 UTC
One workaround is to edit .kde4/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc (while kde is not running) and add the Menu key where needed

I also don't like hardcoded Menu key without abilty to reassign.

1. Menu key is not working in many KDE apps. Try to select message in KMail and press Menu key - nothing will happen. Same when you select Amarok track. It doesn't work exactly as RMB. And as a user I'll just click RMB instead of trying to memorize where Menu key works and where not.

2. In multi-panel apps (Kontact, KDevelop, Amarok, editors) it's not obvious which element has focus, and so no one is using Menu key.

Because of those reasons many KDE 3.x users were reassigning this key, and ability to reassign should be restored.

I think it's reasonable to call this a bug and not a wish considering that it is a regression from KDE3.

Do not treat the context menu button as modifier

It's not and not treated as such by Qt either.
In addition suck context events while recording
(so it doesn't activate, rather cosmetic)
