In the attached video you can see what happens to Plasma when running OpenOffice (or some other Gtk applications). When the OpenOffice window is exposed, Plasma windows starts to flicker and get bad redraw. When you minimize the window, all returns to normality.
I'm using KDE 4 beta 2, with NVIDIA 7600GS and latest drivers (173.14.09).
This happens with or without desktop effect enabled, and as I recall used to happen with older versions of KDE 4.
