Version: (using KDE 4.0.3) Installed from: Unspecified Linux OS: Linux When specifying a Theme in /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc, KDM will crash if the theme doesn't exist. This is a regression because I've retested with KDM 3.5 version, and there you only get a warning, after which KDM continues working, but without theme. I would expect the same behaviour in KDM 4.0 as in 3.5.
kdm.log shows an interesting error in the end: --------------- The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports: > Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols > Ignoring extra symbols Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server <stdin>:30:1: error: unterminated #if kdmgreet: Fatal IO error: client killed ---------------------- no specific errors in Xorg.log
I had this error too. KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5. SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
