Description Jeremy Hankenson 2008-03-31 08:45:19 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I was hoping for some better taging on Videos like there is on Music. I would like to be able to search through my tv shows and movies like I search through my Music in Amarok.

Hi Jeremy! Thanks for your input, but could you please specify a little bit more in detail what's missing? I'm not sure which kind of 'tagging' you mean - do you mean Nepomuk-tags that can be assigned to files? Or do you just mean general meta-information that should be shown in the information sidebar?

Better meta tags for video files. When I tried to change the tags of my Family Guy shows, there was only a tag for name, time and year. I was thinking of tags like TV Show or Movie Title, Season, Episode, Year.

Then I could use the new Nepomuk to search for the tv show by just popping in Season 3 of Family guy.

I don't think this has anything to do with dolphin, but I know you tag files with dolphin, so this seemed like my best bet.

You can already assign any tags you want to your video files ("Create new tag"). Name, type and year are not really "tags", they are a general meta information that is available for any file.

I'm a little bit unsure how to proceed with this bug report. You can create already any tag to your files with Dolphin (although for sure there is room for improvement in the user interface, performance etc. but Sebastian Trüg is already working on this very hard for the 4.1 release). From my point of view it will just take some time until applications like Digikam, Amarok etc. get released which will use Nepomuk intensively. So those applications could provide e. g. some default tags that simplifies the task for assigning them.

Please read my next blog entry which I will write the next days. It will cover the real purpose of Nepomuk which means to introduce new types of data. The idea is that you then define a new type "TV Show" which has properties "Season". "Year", "Episode", and so on and use these fields in every Nepomuk-enabled application. This will still take a lot of work but we will get there. Just stay with me on this one... :)

This bug may be relevant:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179803

It is not a dupe, but rather asking to make the default KDE media player (Dragon) have some of the organizational abilities of Amarok.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719
