Description m.wege 2007-12-30 18:13:52 UTC
Version: 0.12.7 (using KDE 3.5.8, Kubuntu (gutsy) 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu3.1)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22-14-generic

I have a growing spamproblem with the yahoo-messenger and it would be really good to have configurable anti-spamfunctions, like:
- only receive messages from certain profiles (My main profile, which I actually never use for messaging and unfortunately can not be deleted is the main cause of the spam problem)
- dont accept messages containing webadresses from people who are not in the adressbook.
- have a captcha like questions as an automated response before displaying a message from a not in my addressbook person is accepted.

These are just some ideas. Would be great if this would be implemented in the yahoo-module or better for all of them. Yahoo is the only one, where I receive spam from, but others may not be so lucky.

Other than the captcha, you just described the Privacy plugin. As for the captcha, that would be an interesting plugin, should someone choose to write it. Closing bug.

Where can I find the privacy plugin? Is this new in 4.0 (I am not using it yet). A quick search on kde-apps.org as well as in kubuntu-repos did not bring up da result.

Now that I had the chance to see what the privacy plugin does. None of the wishes above is covered by the privacy plugin. Therefore I reopen and describe a little more.
Privacy plugin is nice, but not very sophisticated. I do not want to look my profile totally and only allow people to message me which are on the contact list. And I do not want to prevent people from sending me links, because that is what people of do. But I want a combination: Only allow people who are on my contact-list to send me links. This should keep out most of the spammers.

The other thing is yahoo specific: Yahoo allows you to have different messenger profiles. Apart from the one you normally use, your yahoo emailadresse automatically counts as a profile name and unfortunately it is impossible to turn it of and it is part of the yahoo directory. But I never used it for messaging. So all messages going for a special yahoo profile should be discarded.

Hello from the KDE Bugsquad!

Unfortunately, Yahoo has discontinued the Yahoo Messenger service, and the code has been removed from Kopete.

Thus, I am closing this bug as "UNMAINTAINED" since it will no longer be fixable, or able to operate due to Yahoo.
