Description Matija Šuklje 2007-07-23 12:12:11 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

Problem:
When an entry (event, task) in Korganizer belongs to several cathegories at the same time.

Current behavour:
The entry is coloured with the colour of only one of its cathegories without even asking the user which is the "dominant" cathegory. The result is that often such entries look out of place because their colour is not the same as the user would expect it to be.

Expected/Wished behaviour:
Options, that the user has:
* Mark one of the cathegories as "dominant"/"primary" for that entry and thus the entry uses only the colour of said cathegory.
* Or let all cathegories as equaly important which would result (as a user's option?) in the entry to display in stripes of both (all) colours.

p.s. There might be also other effects as e.g. coloured dots or other patterns, a gradient, mixing the two colours (red + blue = violet)

I like the dot idea.

I'm not sure which option is the best, but we should definitively have some control over the display of items in multiple categories. This wishlist item is still valid in KDE PIM suite 5.3.0 (KDE Apps 16.08.0).

Indeed, this is still a valid request, even 9 years after it was first posted :)

The mixing of colors is in my opinion not a good idea, since you'll just happen to get a rainbow colored weekview that way, with color not really corresponding to the categories.

Perhaps you could reorganize quickly the current categories (which are still broken by the way since 2013) with drag and drop. The very first category would be the primary one, ie. its color fill the entire event.
BUT, you'd have colored dots for each other categories show somewhere in that event.

What do you think about that?

It’s been a while, indeed :]

I like this idea very much.

In fact, this wish is not 9 years old, but more than 15. It was imported as one of the first bugs from some ancient predecessor of this bug tracker!

I mark this bug as duplicate of the original. Although there hasn't been any activity on the original wish, it still has, among all of its duplicates, the most votes.

@Voters: Your votes are not re-assigned to the original automatically. If you are still interested in this feature, please re-assign your votes to the original bug 21879.

@All: please continue any discussion in bug 21879, too. I'm sorry to slow your recent momentum here!
