KNetworkmanager disconnects periodically - apparently for no reason. Clicking on the icon in the system tray I can usually get it to re-connect. The crash occurred when I tried to download updates via the 'Online Update Configuration'

I also have this problem, and ran a back trace. I installed openSUSE 10.2 from CD and then ran the updates from the repos, which is when the problem started.
