Description Alexander 2007-04-07 00:44:14 UTC
Version: 1.9.3 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-4.1.1
OS: Linux

Thanks for making such great software. Ability to split the editing screen (e.g. emacs style) I think would be a great added functionality. I often free-write in one document and then copy sections into a clean, more structured document, or copy sections from other documents into new documents, and here a split editing screen (i.e. multiple kate-parts next to each other) would be a great feature.

As a Kile user since a few weeks, I like the editor and I think this feature would be really a useful one.

best regards

I very much support the feature request. I like the project organisation by kile and would like to have the emacs/kate feature with two and more parallel editing windows.

This is a feature I really use too much. I used kate to write down scripts in R code and was very used to it, but I really miss it in Kile. It's so much helpful to be able to copy parts of latex code a region of the document that is far from the code currently being written.

I also would find this feature incredibly useful. I often write quite long documents and when redrafting I often refer to the previous version, having the two versions side by side is much better than switching tabs. I have taken to having a Kile window open with the new version and a Kate window with the old version beside it to gain this functionality. I also use this trick to be able to see different parts of the same document at the same time.

I would also *love* this feature. I frequently write two versions of an exam for my students, and it would be much easier to have the two files side-by-side so I can edit them in parallel.

If possible, the ability to synchronize scrolling between the two editing windows would be very useful, too.

I also support this whish strongly. The split view works so well in Kate und would be a big advantage in Kile too.

I'd LOVE that feature!!!

I am somewhat confused about the relationship between kile and kate. I know that kile uses kate as its editor component, but some of my favourite features of kate are missing in kile - such as the split view discussed in this thread, but also the "multiline tab bar" plugin. Could you explain where to start if I would like to port a kate feature to kile, or if these features would have to be implemented fully independently in kile?
