Description bauche 2000-10-31 00:14:12 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: 2.0
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: RPMs

Please add more options to configure the mailboxes like inbox just like in pine.
I use the mailboxes created by default by netscape mail that is
~/nsmail/Inbox
~/nsmail/Sent
etc.
instead of
~/Mail/inbox
~/Mail/sent-mail
etc.

I can tell pine where those mailboxes are so I use the same mailboxes under Netscape Mail
and pine. But I can't do that under kmail.

Well you can call
ln -s ~/nsmail/Inbox ~/Mail/inbox
ln -s ~/nsmail/Sent ~/Mail/sent-mail
from a shell.

I guess that's not what you wanted to hear?

Ok if you use
ln -s ~/nsmail ~/Mail/.nsmail.directory
and create a empty file ~/Mail/nsmail
Your Netscape mail boxes are displayed as subtree this method is at least=
=20
reported to work.

No.
I already tried it but when kmail compacts a folder it removes the simlink and
puts a new file.
Netscape mail acts the same way.

I can make Pine accept kmail's dot-directories but I cannot make kmail
accept simple directories as used by pine.

Trying to use symbolic links as a more complicated approach I can't
have both a directory and a file of the same name in the same directory
i.e. linking a directory ~/Mail/subdir to kmail by
ln -s ~/Mail/subdir/ ~/Mail/.subdir.directory
works but I can't make an empty file "subdir" in ~/Mail/ as there is
already the directory. Using a directory different from ~/Mail/ for
kmail (or pine) and then link directories could be an option.

Of course I could also change all existing pine directories to kmail's
dot-directory standard and generate empty files but kmail could just
as well accept the same simple directories as used by pine.

Information on the reason for choosing the present kmail directory
structure appreciated.

Best regards
Karsten.
