Description Matt Fago 2007-01-26 23:11:59 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs
OS:                Linux

Clicking on the "Lock Session" applet locks the screen, but the screensaver does not start first (the screen just 'freezes'). Locking the session via either the contextual menu (right-click on the desktop), or from the K-menu works sometimes, other times as the applet (locked, with frozen screen).

Additionally, the screensaver does not always seem to start after the allotted time (Control Center Screensaver is set to 'automatic' 1 minute, lock after 30 seconds).

Furthermore, starting it via:
dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface start

works sometimes, but sometimes the screen just 'freezes'. I have an strace from this if it is helpful (doubt it).

In the same vein, 'kdesktop_lock' just freezes the screen (without locking it), while 'kdesktop_lock --forcelock' locks the frozen screen, but 'kdesktop_lock --nolock' starts the screensaver, but does not (of course) lock the screen.

I've seen quite a few bugs related to this, most having to do with Display Power Management. I've fiddled around with this some, but it does not seem to reliably help things.

For the record, my settings are:

###

cat ~/.kde/share/config/kcmdisplayrc
[$Version]
update_info=kcmdisplayrc.upd:kde3

[DisplayEnergy]
displayEnergySaving=true
displayPowerOff=0
displayStandby=45
displaySuspend=60

[X11]
exportKDEColors=true

###

Section from kdesktoprc:

[ScreenSaver]
ActionBottomLeft=0
ActionBottomRight=0
ActionTopLeft=0
ActionTopRight=1
Enabled=true
Lock=true
LockGrace=30000
Priority=19
Saver=piecewise.desktop
Timeout=60

Changing this to a non-xscreensaver (KLorentz) doesn't seem to have an effect.

Note that I have gnome-power-manager (?) and gnome-settings-daemon running.

This is fedora core 6 x86_64, running kde 3.5.5 (package kdebase.x86_64 6:3.5.5-0.4.fc6).

Dupe of bug 140639, I expect

regarding the freezes i've seen something similar some time ago. this is for a different report, though.
