Version: 0.10.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 3.4.3 OS: Linux The bug is actually almost exactly the same as bug 32942, but since that one is very old, I figured it would make more sense to report a new one instead of reopening. I experience frequent freezes from KNode that came with 3.5.5. And it doesn't simply crash (I wish), but it freezes the whole system, or at least X.org (I'm not sure), leaving only reboot to fix it. Obviously I cannot attach any logs, since there's no trace of what KNode did when it froze. The occasions when it occurs seem pretty random: it can freeze when getting posts from server, when changing newsgroups, switching threads or simply reading posts (but it happens only with KNode – I'm using the computer a lot and it didn't happen to me in a few months; also I tried to close as many apps as possible before running KNode to verify). Fortunately it doesn't always freeze, but it's more or less every second time I run it... More specifically, when it freezes, the mouse pointer stays active and I can move it, but anything else is unresponsive. Nothing is clickable, keyboard doesn't seem to work (ctrl+alt+F1, ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+alt+backspace...) etc.
In case it makes any difference, I'm using Qt 3.3.7, also compiled from sources, with options from BLFS book and installed in /opt/qt/.
Apparently this issue is not related to KNode, as I had it with Akregator as well. It seems that it's a bug in kdepim or KDE's networking code. I'm almost happy I stopped using KMail and Konqueror a long time ago...
I have not seen any freeze (not KNode related either) of the system since I switch to KDE 4.
