(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: knode Version: KDE 2.2.1 Severity: normal Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 2.95.2 OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: System mostly based on Slack 8 When running KNode (I have seen this behavior in both 2.2 and 2.2.1 now) it tends to hang X completely and randomly (actually only when reading articles and I see no pattern in the type or frequency) but Linux does continue to run. I cannot ctrl-alt-backspace to shutdown X nor kill -9 the window manager or X itself to recover the console leaving a telnet session into the machine for a reboot as the sole method for recovery. Hardware is Sony PCG-F340 Laptop with 192 MB of ram and 256 MB of swap. I will try to append a backtrace if feasible but I'm not sure if it will be of use as the system seems to go on it's merry way. I can even kill KNode and utilize the system using telnet to my hearts content without ever recovering the display. This behavior has been witnessed both when running KDE and when running GNOME. All kernels I have seen this under are 2.4.5 2.4.6 2.4.9 and 2.4.10. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi do you have any more information about it? I really can't reproduce this bug. Also I am very reluctant to accept it as a Knode bug since it would be very difficult for Knode to freeze X like you mention. Please try sending me the backtrace you promised. regards Roberto. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8Z9cLF22Y2BQEMsYRAgZlAJ9wlUoRddz7unB9AnkxLvS4tqMlHQCgrQpN sWyF4TpUCoq9Nprl8sN4WX4= =fSRe -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Sorry but you can reject this bug. I am still unsure why it locked up but whenever I used KNode on my laptop it locked X solid. However now the laptop is gone and I was never able to get the trace. I had hoped that I would post the bug and get a lot of me too's but that never happened so I suspect it was a local problem. I have never seen anything similar on my desktop or new laptop. > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > Hi > > do you have any more information about it?
