Description Maciej Pilichowski 2006-10-09 15:29:51 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I made an entry in Address Book, everything is fine. Now I try to compose mail, I set to to my alias -- "inf".

KMail shows it in form:
"inf, " <mail1@somehere.com, mail2@somwhere.com >

There are 13 mail adressess between anglebracket. I didn't edit this entry, I just choose what KMail suggests.

And then I've got KMail error "The email address you entered is not valid because it contains an unclosed anglebracket."

Which is of course not true, and second it is quite bizarre to show an error for its own actions -- KMail made those addresses in such form.

The workaround is to edit mail-to each time -- remove anglebrackets and alias.

can you please provide more information.
KMail version?
Which completion mode are you using?
contact to reproduce bug.
Comment 2 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-01-21 18:21:37 UTC
Kmail -- latest stable.
Completion mode -- where can I find this info?
Comment 3 Christian Schaarschmidt 2007-01-22 20:37:37 UTC
you can find the completion mode in the context menu (right-click) of the to-addressline. And please provide more info to reproduce the bug, none of my contacts shows this behaviour.

Mode: dropdown list.

KMail -> Address Book -> new -> name -> "test".
email -> yours ;-), comma, mine.
Save.
Kmail -> new -> "t". The test should appear, choose it. Note the strange comma after the "test". It didn't come from me!
"test, " <yours_email_address, mine>
Try to put in in the queue:

"test, "
The email address you entered is not valid because it contains an unclosed anglebracket.

I think it is the best to search such text in KMail source and see the conditions. Something has to be not correct.
Comment 5 Christian Schaarschmidt 2007-01-22 22:58:36 UTC
you can't add emails like that. ;-)

To add more than one email to a contact, use "Edit email addresses" button

To create distribution list, use Settings->Show Extension bar->Distribution Lists

Christian, thanks, but now the things look even worse, ... ;-) Ok, back to reporting wishes...
Comment 7 Tobias Koenig 2009-08-05 16:31:14 UTC
The development of the old KAddressBook will be discontinued for KDE 4.4.
Since the new application has the same name, but a completly new code base we close all bug reports against the old version and ask the submitters to resend there reports against the new product.
