Description david powell 2006-06-26 02:07:22 UTC
Version: 0.19 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

marked this as a wish but think its a bug
and may need some other option to enable it

when using kttsd to read out chan messages its often the case that there turned off for some chans
the problem is that doing so turns off all notifications for that chan
its often usefull to still have the notification announcement for own nick mentioned in a chan even if other notifications have beein disabled for that chan

this is ether going to need a option in the configuration to allow this to be announced for all chans regradless of if the
notifications are on or off , or another disable option on right click

a better solution may be to add a selection list in the configuration settings that lists the notifications and alow's the type of notification to ether be included in the ones to be disabled for a chan or excluded from being disabled

If I understand you correctly, you desire more fine-grained control over what the "Enable Notifications" toggle in the context menu of a given tab affects.

This seems identical to your earlier report: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129817

First of, the "Enable Notifications" toggle is meant to be simple and clear-cut; I believe adding another place in the GUI to influence its meaning would dilute its use as a fast on/off switch for *all* notifications arising in a tab.

Aside from this specific GUI element, what we currently offer is reasonably fine-grained control over which notifications are active globally, but we don't expand that matrix into that other dimension, namely allowing adjustment on a per-channel basis. I can see a need for that, and reimplementing the notification systems for the KDE 4 version in a manner that accomodates for it should be on our minds.

Nick notification patch

I really hope that we will have such feature in Konversation for KDE4. For now I can propose that little patch which doesn't require adding big changes to the interface, just adds a checkbox.

Hope it will be useful for somebody except me :)

Any chances to see this small feature in next releases?

It's not at all a small feature but rather a pretty big one that requires significant rearchitecturing of the notifications code along with good UI design for the global and per-channel settings, etc. It's definitely planned, but there's no timetable for it at the moment, sorry.
