Description Maciej Pilichowski 2006-04-08 15:08:56 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

In KDE 3.5.1 it was no problem to make a screenshot -- desktop or window. I upgraded to 3.5.2 and... [prnscr] /desktop/ or [ctrl]+[prnscr] /window/ --> no new entry in klipper. It looks like I am pressing some dead keys /i.e. no reaction/.

No, just klipper doesn't show images by default anymore, since it's dangerous due to some technical X limitations. You can paste a screenshot in e.g. kolourpaint just fine

a) What do you mean "by default"? There is no such option like "show images". At least I cannot spot anything like that.

b) I cannot paste anything in GIMP, so I guess I didn't copy anything /worked with KDE 3.5.1/
Comment 3 Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-26 17:21:57 UTC
I reopened this bug since:
a) I set "printscreen" key for making screenshot -- it does not do it, there is no feedback
b) making screenshots from gimp, ksnapshot works
c) it is not a duplicate since I am referring here to non-working keyboard shortcut, not klipper
d) klipper works just fine (when I make a screenshot in ksnapshot it displays it like I want to)
e) pasting is not a problem, copying the screen content is a problem -- making a screenshot simply put

It is an obvious bug -- it is sufficient to set shortcut in Control Center and try it out.

Btw. "printscreen" key is just an example. It does not work for any other key.

Works fine for me with a fresh user account. I suggest you check your keyboard setup ("xev", etc.).
Comment 5 Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-27 20:12:30 UTC
Lubos, what do you mean?

Let's say I want to launch kate. I can set printscreen, F12, win+space, whatever and kate will launch.

I cannot set anything for taking screenshots.

So keyboard works just fine. Is there any hidden settings for not-ignoring taking screenshot with keyboard shortcuts?

I mean that I cannot reproduce and that means that unless you can provide more details, like what's different in your setup from the default KDE setup (or my setup), there's no way to help you without being able to reproduce, sorry.

Lubos, I really like to find it out, but please -- help me a bit, I mean, what rc file should I check.

The last time I reported such an awkward behaviour (location edit-box in Konqueror was uneditable) the reason was something so unrelated that again I want to just guess.

So, which files should I check? What program I could use to check if the [printscreen] is pressed and propagated correctly.

[printscreen] key is of course an example.

Oh, and one more thing. Since the first installation what I did was upgrade of KDE, not fresh install. And when it didn't work for 3.5.2 it did not for .3, .4 and now .5.

Check with xev that the shortcuts work.
Try to use a different working shortcut for the action that does not work.
Try to use the non-working shortcut for an action that does work.
I don't know what else to say.

> Check with xev that the shortcuts work.

It works.

> Try to use a different working shortcut for the action that does not work.

All of them do not work.

> Try to use the non-working shortcut for an action that does work.

It works.

> I don't know what else to say.

It is not hardware failure, that for sure, however there is a bug inside KDE. I am not saying, that bug is like "no screenshots" but bug that causes some kind of clash, that shortcuts are not working.
All in all I didn't hacked KDE or anything like this.

What else can I check? Is there any "do not make screenshots" option burried in rc files?

One good thing about opensuse 10.2 -- with the same KDE I am able to make screenshots again!
