If the preceding line starts with a prefix like "1. ", "* ", "-- " etc. then skip the prefix by white space in the new line, e.g. * preceding line new line 2. Else, if the preceding line is indented without a prefix then intend the new line by the same amount of white space, e.g. preceding line new line
