Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0) Installed from: Slackware Packages OS: Linux My (blank) screen saver does not start anymore. If i hit the test button then it comes on fine. However it does not start automatically. I have enabled/disabled several times without any success and also tried other screen savers. I have the setting on Start automatically after 10 min and Required password to stop after 60 sec. These were my settings on kde 3.4.x where the screen saver worked perfectly.
Does the same behaviour occur for a newly-created user?
Yes. I just created a new user and started kde for the first time. I set his to start after 1 min. No screen blanking even after 10 min.
I also use Slackware (10.2), I also upgrade from 3.4.2 to 3.5 and the result is the same. Although, on an other machine I made the same, but in that case everithing is OK. Who understands?
I don't know who is responsible for fixing the bug or even if someone is working on it. As a workaround i disabled the kde screen saver and started using xscreensaver. http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/man1.html#10 Regards, -Wajih --- Rácz János <nigra@freemail.hu> wrote: [bugs.kde.org quoted mail] __________________________________________ Yahoo! The bug is present also here. The guess is that the binaries are bad. I will compile from sources with Konstruct and tell if it fixes the bugs, however I hope new package will come out soon so that most of the bugs are fixed. Aleksandar
I upgraded my system to 3.5.1 and the bug remained the same. :-(
This appears to be a slackware-specific packaging issue... (and probably not a kde bug)
This same issue with the screen saver has been haunting me for a while, but I'm on FreeBSD and compile the source myself, so it's not a slackware issue.
I've upgreaded from 3.5.2 to 3.5.5 and the bug appeares. Mine is slackware 11.0 with kde 3.5.5 from http://www.linuxpackages.net/
Possibly related to bug 140639
In my case turning power management on helps
