Description Alex Argiropoulos 2005-10-21 23:30:35 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

I find myself many times in a situation where I am a few meters away from the computer and I have some audible notification (say kmail, kopete etc) and in order for me to find out I have to walk to the computer, move the mouse or tap a key to stop the screensaver...

I think it would be nice, if there was a notification area in the kscreensaver framework, and if I choose too (that means it needs to have a configuration flag too) then programms could display a notification on the running screensaver.

What do you think?

Anyways, keep up the great work.
/Alex

do plasma widgets on the screen saver provide an adequate solution?
Comment 4 Chani 2009-06-29 00:28:31 UTC
no, because it's part of the systray, and you can't put the systray on your screensaver. :P
maybe a non-systray version could be written, I don't know how much work it would be.

I guess it's a shame this guy isn't experiencing the bug where notifications appear over hte screensaver. ;)

i guess this should be a plasmoid which would look a bit like an rss feeder or something.
the knotify configuration would need to have an additional mode dimension: normal (usual defaults) and locked (defaults all off), probably with a checkbox for each event to affect all modes at once.
i leave the details of the diversion of event delivery to the more interested parties. :)
i suppose this should be somehow reassigned to plasma.

One of the tasks of the screen locker is to completely blank the session. This implies that nothing from the running session should be shown. Thus we cannot show notifications as that runs against that security aim.
