Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: Compiled From Sources OS: Linux I am always connected to internet over my phone when using PC. However I can not use KMobileTools when using GPRS Net. (Other way around it is the same problem). It is not possible to use KPPP GPRS Internet together with KMobileTools (sending SMS or accesing addressbook). This works with M$ so it should be possible.
Probably both KPPP and KMobileTools needs some improvement therefore I created bug for both products: BUG #113441
*** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. ***
Re-unconfirming. Vote manipulation is not allowed. Please learn to play fair.
Hi if I spent time and effort explaining my colleagues the problem (ALL of them ARE USING linux) and asked them to vote for the bug, I dont think that this was unfair practice. NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FACT THAT THIS IS SERIOUS FLAW IN THE DESIGN. THE TIME WHEN DEVICE WAS USED EXCLUSIVELY BY SINGLE APPLICATION IS OVER FOR TVENTY YEARS NOW, AND IT IS REALLY TIME TO ADDRESS IT. PS: If I spent that time explaining the problem and asking for vote it was because I believe the problem is very serious and whole community will benefit from it, otherwise I would consider it as a waste of my time.
STAY USER UNEASY, STAY OBSCURE - STAY TRULY LINUX :)
Did I say we were not going to look into the problem? No, I just unconfirmed it because I am not convinced the 4 accounts that voted are from 4 different people (all 4 have suspiciously the very same votes).
I will tell you one thing, this is the core of the problem, this is why linux will never get broader acceptance. You can do almost everything in linux, BUT there are these little glitches, you can send sms from linux, and you can use gprs, you can read addressbook, but not at the same time. (it is just small example, unfortunatelly this happens often)
I can garantee you that most of the people who use mobile with computer for both sending sms and internet already experienced the problem, 75% of them quit using it, 20% dont know what is or dont have time for bugzilla; and the reminder? Why do I waste my time here?
This is probably deep in linux kernel and part of the unix heritage. Same pain is being experienced by everyone who what to share device (soundservers) for multiple purposes at the same time. The application engineers are probably the only people who can push on the driver/kernel guys to get over this SINGLE-DEVICE-SINGLE-TASK-NIGHTMARE :( I am pretty sure, that you are aware that this works without any problems in bill's system :(
/My excuse to everyone who become by accident spectator and victim of my conversation with Thiago Macieira/
