Version: 2.2 (using KDE 3.3.0, SuSE) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.17-default In the German version, one patience game is called "Zigeuner", which is a racistic word. "Roma und Sinti" would be corrct, but maybe you can think of an other name at all. Would be awesome if you could change this in the next version. Thx!
for one, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zigeuner disagrees with you. While it's seen by some as Schimpfword, it's not by everyone. But that doesn't matter here at all as it's a name for an historic patience game and not a people.

Hadi, thanks for bringing this up. I'm strongly in support for a renaming and feel a bit shocked it hasn't happened yet 20 years after this was brought up first...
I don't really know the ins-and-outs of Solitaire/Patience games, but quick internet research did not really bring up a widely used, alternative name for this type of game. So I asked ChatGPT and it suggested the following alternative names: - "Scorpion Solitaire" - "Spiderette" - "Doppel-Deck-Scorpion" - "Zweideck-Solitaire" - "Doppel-Skorpion" - "Fortgeschrittenes Scorpion-Solitaire" - "Kombiniertes Klondike- und Scorpion-Solitaire" - "Farbfolge-Solitaire" Is one of these suggestions correct? Since I don't know anything about Solitaire games, I'd prefer to discuss these suggestions here before committing to a translation.
As this topic comes up every ten years, I would settle it. as you suggest using chatgpt, I did. and I like its suggestion: call it Oberhumer as the rules come from pysol and it's the authors favorite game. Reference: https://pysolfc.sourceforge.io/doc/rules/gypsy.html
I posted on r/solitaire to ask for advice: https://www.reddit.com/r/solitaire/comments/1kxfdh5/nonoffensive_german_name_for_gypsy/
The current lead dev of PySol commented on my Reddit post: > I've seen the same game also under the name "Normandy", and I currently have "Normandy" listed as an alternate name in the PySolFC database. > Though I've also seen "Normandy" used to refer to a variant where only kings can fill empty spaces. You could toy with using the name of another variant, like "Yeast Dough" (all cards face-up). > PySol actually has a whole category of "Gypsy-type" games, so I can provide a few more variants if that'd help. My suggestion would be to change the name to "Normandy", and update translations accordingly. I'll open a MR to the kpatience repo when I have the time tomorrow and we can continue the discussion there.
As long as we don't call it Roma und Sinti, I'm fine with basically all alternatives - you could add a section to the documentation giving some context in case someone is looking for the old name. Just an idea.

Git commit ae29304ebc8a7e6499ba94300bafdaca6e8d92eb by Philipp Kiemle. Committed on 04/06/2025 at 14:03. Pushed by aacid into branch 'master'. Rename "Gypsy" to non-offensive "Normandy" As per https://www.reddit.com/r/solitaire/comments/1kxfdh5/comment/mux31p9, this seems to be the most accurate alternative.
