Version: 1.8.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.4.2 [FreeBSD] 20040728 OS: FreeBSD (i386) release 5.4-STABLE I have a POP3 server, which I only check occasionally -- it is excluded from the "check messages" list. After trying to visit it recently using the latest KMail, I found out, that I don't remember the password (or, rather, KMail could not find it after an upgrade from KDE-3.3.2). So, when KMail asked me for it, I said "Cancel". The password dialog disappeared, but kept coming back every 5-10 seconds until I restarted KMail... Which part of the word "Cancel" could not the program understand?
This bug is still present in Kmail 1.9.1 (KDE 3.5.2)

I can confirm this as well. In my case I specified the wrong server for my IMAP account. Consequently KMail failed to connect and refused to stop attempting to connect.
I can confirm this with KDE 3.5.4 on FreeBSD 6.1 What's worse is that it's not even possible to tell KMail to stop checking the server altogether, it will just ignore the settings. This makes it completely useless until the server comes back.
In case it's of any help, this is most likely a regression of http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93199
And this bug report itself is the same as http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122096. It's just that this one is about wrong password, and that one is about wrong authentication method. But the problem is the same, "Cancel" doesn't cancel.
