When losing internet connectivity, connections timeout, and Kde programs show up errors popups. This is nothing but a good thing ;) Well, yesterday we had a scheduled network outage, my imap connection went out, kmail showed popups, I cleared them... We've had many short losts of connectivity until night, because of friends worwing on the firewall... And each time, a popup. Then I got home, leaving Kmail running so he sorts my messages: When at home, I do not need to have any filters set, my work machine does all the stuff. Anyway, yesterday, at home, I saw that message filtering did not work... If found that my Kmail at work stopped sorting messages because of an error popup that had spawned during the night. Well, it stopped simply doing anything, and waited for me to check the popup ! Is it possible to have some form of non-blocking error popups ? And if so, is it possible to have these popups block each other so that when one popup is displayed, others ar forgoten: It would ba annoying to have 100 popups to clear in the morning ;) ! Instead, for example, it should be possible to count how many errors of each type occured during that time, and after the first popup is cleared, display something like: ------------------------------------------------------- Since "date:hour", the following errors occured: * 30 x "host not reachable" * 50 x "cannot write - Disk full ?" .... ------------------------------------------------------- Well, this is badly done, but, you get the point ;) !
I agree. Instead of showing a popup of each error, kmail could show a summary about recent errors, like for example, on a non modal small window on corner of screen. The same request is valid for other KDE applications, especially Kopete, which is as dumb as Kmail to notify errors. Please consider extreme conditions, like: - Working out of office or home, were networks are jammed and loose connections. - Working on wireless network, where one may frequently get out of access points reach.
