Description Jürgen Möller 2005-02-24 17:03:29 UTC
Version: 0.44 (using KDE 3.3.0, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.11-default

In the main window of Kooka I'm missing the switches for "Preview Scan" and "Final Scan" so it is not possible to do a scan.
My scanner (Agfa Snapscan 1236 SCSI) is recognized by the system and works fine out of StarOffice (Open Office).

This is my problem too. Kooka worked wonderfully before, but
since I had to do a re-install of SuSE 9.3, I can't get started
in Kooka. No Preview Scan or Final Scan buttons. Nor links in the
drop down menus above. Quite disappointed as I really liked Kooka!

Hold it! (Bouquet here again!)
I just checked in YaST and found that the driver for my scanner
had not been installed yet. Once I did that,Kooka recognized my
scanner, and it's working now. :)

This happens to me after switching to SUSE 10.0 - kooka 0.44, KDE 3.4.2
get message on konsole:
Layout: Adding QComboBox/PREVIEWFORMATCOMBO (child of QVButtonGroup/unnamed) to layout for Previewer/unnamed
kooka worked with same scanner up to SUSE 9.3

I had the same problem as Juergen Moeller.

After poking around I found that on a fresh install the "Gallery" section was to large causing the "Scanner Settings" section to compress to the point that it hid the buttons from view.

Just shrink the gallery directory tree window and they will pop into view.

Cheers

Anthony

Anthony,
thanx for the explanation, seems reasonable to me. My problem still is: how do I "shrink" the gallery directory window? Is this that part of the kooka window which shows the name of the gallery/picture, the size, and the format of my scanned images? I'm unable to shrink that part of the display. Being a newbie to LINUX and kooka this might be a very basic problem BEFORE the keybord but note that I'm able to shrink and expand other KDE windows if necessary.
thank you for any hint
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Yes the window with the files listed in a directory tree layout. All you have to do is put your curser over the "bar" at the botton of the window. The curser will change to a double headed arrow. At that point left click and "drag" the lower side of the window up until the buttons come into view.

Hope this helps,

Anthony

Anthony,
thanx for your speedy reply.
I'm still stuck as there is no "bar" at the bottom of the directory window if
this window is wide enough to show all the data.
If I squeeze the window horizontally then a "horizontal scroll bar" pops up at
the bottom which woorks as designed scrolling left to right, but no way to
click and drag up.
Maybe I have messed up my settings and I confess I can't remember every
keystroke testing this "bug".

Hi Bernd,

What I was refering to as a "bar" was the 3d look at the bottom of the file list window. Just put you mouse over the file list window and as you move it SLOWLY past the bottom of the window the mouse curser should change to a double arrow head. When it does this then left click the mouse and drag the bottom of the window up. This will stretch the scanner settings box until the buttons appear.

If you're still having trouble I'll look into how to capture a "screen shot" of it and e-mail your personal e-mail address the next time I'm in Mandrake.

Cheers,

Tony

Maybe one of the programers that works on Kooka can lock the bottom of the Scanner Settings box so it can't hide the buttons. I'm not a programmer or I would look into it.

Hi, I am aware of the problem that sometimes the GUI builds up pretty messed up. Moreover, sometimes it is completely empty which is even worse. What helps as a workaround is to move away ~/.kde/share/config/kookrc and see if the GUI got reset ;-(

The only proper solution seems to be to get rid of the DockWidgets Kooka is using. The DockWidget framework seems not to be maintained in the kdelibs and they're buggy. But rewriting the GUI to use Splitters instead of the DockWidgets (which aren't really user friendly as this report shows) takes some time I do not have atm.

Sorry.

Now on SUSE 10.1. Deleted the config/kookrc file (3 times) as suggested above, no luck. Removed all expendable pictures from the gallery, only 9 items left.
Scanner is still unusable.
