In the file associations section of the control center you can configure to open the application/x-pdf filetype with e.g. xpdf or another program of your choice. You should have the same drop down menu as in konqueror for links, in which you can choose which program to run. See also Bug 107565: a reported a similar bug, but this one is for attachments.
