Description Fernando M. Muniz 2024-12-13 23:57:10 UTC
I'm requesting to move the "Sort By > Other > Deletion Time" setting into the main "Sort By" list IF the user is on the Trash folder.

It's beneficial to the average user to have this file-sorting option be more visible in the Trash folder.

The default trash folder view properties are details view mode with the "Deletion Time" field active. So the deletion time is shown by default in Dolphin. Sorting by deletion time is then as easy as pressing the "Deletion Time" column header in Dolphin. Sorting in reverse is done by clicking that column header again. With that in mind, sorting by "Deletion Time" is already very visible by default in Dolphin.

This bug report requests to make this option also more visible in the "Sort By" menu. Currently, the "Sort By" menu is identical in Dolphin no matter from where the menu is opened. One gets the same menu through right-click on the view background, the "Sort By" action in the hamburger menu, right-clicking column headers in details view mode, and even the "Add Additional Information" menu. Having a different sorting for the Trash folder introduces an inconsistency and IMO creates more confusion about where actions are placed than if we keep it consistent everywhere.

So considering that drawback and considering that by default the "Deletion Time" and sorting by "Deletion Time" is already very visible, I will mark this bug report as INTENTIONAL and discourage the requested change here. Users who have changed the default view properties of the Trash folder in the past are expected to know how they can change the view properties again to include the "Deletion Time" when that is wanted.

If you don't remember changing the Trash folder view properties yourself and don't remember having the "Deletion Time" by default, that is absolutely possible because we only recently added this view property by default for users that have the setting to use the same view properties everywhere. This might not have affected users with older installations.
