How often do you start digiKam for the first time with a new configuration? I find the most 800x600 (with the wizard based tools it is 800x750 if the desktop resolution lets it) is a good start. The windows can be enlarged and digiKam will remember it the next time. From my side WORKSFORME. Maik First impressions count. At least if you want to attract non-geeks to Digikam. It's probably a one-liner (for the settings dialog and the initial settings wizard). I know a lot of people who never resize (or even maximize) windows, even browser windows, and resort to scrolling all the time - and some then think the application is "confusing". Not in a bad way, they just never get the idea they can resize windows. Maybe because they come from smartphones where this problem simply doesn't exist. Just my 2 cents though. ;) *** Bug 407467 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 407468 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** digiKam 7.0.0 stable release is now published and now available as FlatPak: https://www.digikam.org/news/2020-07-19-7.0.0_release_announcement/ We need a fresh feedback on this file using this version. Thanks in advance Gilles Caulier This issue persists with digikam 7 on Arch Linux. @Patrick, digiKam 8.0.0 is out. This entry still valid with this release ? Default sizes look small to me. Please see the attached screenshots of digikam 8 on Arch Linux.

Your screenshots don't show the window size for a first launch. From digiKam-8.0.0 there is a function that creates a good default size based on the screen size. If a size is already saved in the configuration or the user has reduced the window to such an extent, it will of course be restored in this way. Maik Ok, confirmed, it affects the main windows managed by the KF5 framework. I'm looking for a solution. Maik Maik, KF5 version 5.106 is now used in the bundles. This do not improve the situation ? Gilles Jens, What's about this file using current 8.2.0 AppImage Linux bundle ? It's reproducible ? https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Note: bundle is now based on Qt 5.15.11 and KDE framework 5.110.
