Hi Alexander,

I cannot reproduce this here (KDE-4.8.4 on x86-64 Mageia Linux 3/Cauldron), with either "File -> Open..." or "File -> Open With -> *". gwenview does not crash when doing these operations, and I checked with both .jpg and .svg files.

A few questions for you:

1. Can you please produce a more meaningful stack trace? Try installing the *-debug packages.

2. Does it happen in a new UNIX user account?

This could be a duplicate of bug 301453. Did it happen with previous version of KDE 4.8? Is it fixed with another KDE 4.8 upgrade?
