Hm, the playback continues for me on Kubuntu 12.04, Amarok 2.5-git of today with KDE 4.8.3, the laptop goes to sleep normally when no tracks are playing. Could you eventually test again with Amarok 2.6 beta 1? I can reproduce this in 2.5.9 I can reproduce this too, Amarok 2.5.0 and KDE 4.9 under Arch Linux.
