Compiler:          gcc 4.4.3 The GNU Compiler Collection

Given the SAME settings on both versions and after numeous testing, upon bootup, KDE 4.4 is eating up *slightly* more RAM than KDE 4.3, at least 25 MB more on the average. Ok, this is small, however, it could eventually add up if the trend continues. This is the first time I've noticed a RAM increase in a while between version changes. I realize the developers mentioned they fixed numerous bugs from the previous version, but shouldn't they be working on getting it lighter? Where's the most likely culprit for this additional RAM usage? Can it be attributed to the newer QT version 4.6.1, or something else? On both versions of KDE (4.4 & 4.3), I had Nepomuk Semantic Desktop and Strigi Desktop File Indexer disabled. It would be nice to see a downward trend in RAM usage in future releases of KDE. Thanks.

For KDE 4.5, Plasma Workspaces team is going to have a conservative release, fixing bugs, without introducing too much new features. I think there is a tendency to achieve this on the whole KDE SC....

Basically this bugreport is useless. What would be needed as bare minimum to make this useful is:

1. A description of your measurement methods
2. along with 1. which processes did you monitor to come to your numbers
3. Is there anything else that changed on the system

Saying "KDE uses 25M more memory" is simply not saying anything, except that you don't like something. There's no "KDE" that could take up memory, there are tons of processes and depending on the actual process 25M more might be close to nothing or a double in size.
