I think I have the same problem. krunner crashes from time to time when I try to launch apps.
I think it happens more when the system is under heavy load, maybe I type to fast too.

I noticed that prior to the crash, krunner did not do the usual matching of my input to previous input, but I went ahead and pressed Enter anyway. And then it crashed. It seems it happens when I type fast and hit enter before it is able to updated UI with possible completions. KRunner usually seems to crash a couple of letters into 'konsole' (usually around 'kon'). Intermittent, if I try again, it usually works.

krunner crash is supposed to be fixed in kde 4.4.2 but it happened again. Although I can admit that it happens much more rarely than before.

I cannot find http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revision&revision=1098125 in http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/4.4/kdebase/workspace/plasma/generic/runners/places/placesrunner.cpp?view=log&pathrev=1098125 (just looking at the date).
