some other specs: i run opensuse 11.1 on a gateway t1616 ... theo I can confirm the problem on the same specs as the bug reporter on a i586 installation. I can see my webcam image on the video settings but no option to send webcam is present on a MSN chat window, MSN Video chat is not implemented in Kopete in KDE 4.2. Kopete from KDE 4.2.x has two MSN protocols: WLM and MSN, the later is supposed to be the same used in 3.5.x. The WLM does not implement webcam option at all. The MSN one has the option to send and receive webcam stream, but it does not seem to work. There is another bug report about this problem: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=181176 I think this one is a duplicate. > Kopete from KDE 4.2.x has two MSN protocols: WLM and MSN,
No, Kopete since KDE 4.2 has only one MSN protocol: WLM. "MSN" is the old plugin, no more developer and no more supported. If you use it, you are basically on your own.
Pino Toscano, I understand it is not supported anymore, but it is still there, although video chat is not working. Could I ask you when WLM plugin is going to support video chat? THe old MSN plugin is just there in the sources, but it's disabled on purpouse from compilation (thus, if your distro compiles it, please file a bug against them). About the video chat: I'm not a Kopete/WLM developer, so you need to wait for them to tell you. Gentoo still has option to enable MSN plugin when compiling Kopete. I have been using the WLM plugin since I upgraded to KDE 4.2.x but I wanted to use my webcam. I have also spent the last week implementing V4L2_CAP_STREAMING capability in my webcam's driver and applied the libv4l patch against Kopete. Now Kopete recognize the webcam, I see images but the WLM plugin does not send the video stream :-/ Today I tried the MSN plugin but the video chat has not worked. I have also searched for the Kopete's release plan and have found nothing. I wanted to know how is Kopete development going, it seems to be slow and there are a lot of bugs about features in KDE's Bugzilla. > Gentoo still has option to enable MSN plugin when compiling Kopete.
Gentoo should NOT enable pieces of software that have been disabled on purpouse because of buggy and unmaintained. This, even if it "seems work", gives a false impression that we are going to provide support for them.
Please tell the Gentoo guys to stop providing such possibility.
Ok, I have filled a bug report in Gentoo's bugzilla to drop the msn USE flag and stick with the wlm USE flag only. so, what does this all mean? that kopete hasn't got the functionalitites anymore it used to? ...and i have got this problem (no webcam option in the actual chat window) not just with msn, but across the spectrum (yahoo, icq, jabber, aim) is there a new chat program in the making that's eveolved past kopete? ... theo Is debian bug report 530538 That means Kopete 4.x does not support video chat, at least in wlm (new msn) plugin. I do not know about other protocols, probably the do not support video chat too. I plan do implement video chat for wlm plugin, but I am busy doing another work now and I do not know when I am going to start to implement. Until there I am using aMSN to do video calls. *** Bug 199656 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. *** I'm using kopete 1.0.80 in kubuntu maverick; I see the webcam in the settings, but not in a jabber (gtalk) chat window... basically I can see no menu to enable the webcam...
