Description Cláudio F. Gil 2004-09-01 02:48:47 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

This is somehow related to http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66175 but I'll try to be more contructive.

When I access and IMAP account kmail fecthes the selected message for display. The problem is that it is done everytime.
I select some local folder and then the IMAP folder again and it fetches the message again.

It seams that only headers are cached but it would be nice if the whole messages were cached. The behaviour I expect is something like:
1. Select a new IMAP folder
2. Kmail fetches all headers, automaticaly selects the first and fetches is to display.
3. A select other folder or even close Kmail
4. Later when I select the same IMAP folder the message is imediatly shown (assuming it does not jump to some unread message) and no fecthing is done.
5. I select a new message from that folder and kmail fecthes the new message.
6. And so on...

It would be nice to have some sort of feedback near the message subject to show if the message is cached or not. (like encrypted and signed messages have)

I'd say this is what disconnected imap is supposed to solve, so please
give it a try.

Unfortunatly when I use dIMAP I can't subscribe to any folder so I cannot test it. It seams what I want but I couldn't use it yet. I'll try to upgrade when I get a faster connection.

Anyway it would make more sense to me if it was just an option. An whole protocol abstraction just to make the messages localy seam extreme (more unnecessary and confuse). Just my opinion and I not familiar with the history behind dIMAP.

This can be considered a duplicate of the more general wish #82684.
