Description M 2003-10-17 22:38:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.2-3mdk)
OS: Linux

KMail's IMAP support is absolutely rubbish :-( .

- It is very slow checking my IMAP account (imap.myrealbox.com).
- It takes a very long time to delete messages on an IMAP account and sometimes doesn't delete them at all.
- It is very slow at retrieving messages on my IMAP server.
- Often it says it can't even contact my IMAP server, even when other mail clients can at that moment in time.
- I decided to delete my IMAP account and recreate it to solve the problem - now it can't even retrieve the folders on my IMAP server, let alone the messages. Currently there's no IMAP folders listed.
- I've also tried on Kroupware KMail but it makes no difference.

So in short, I think KMail's IMAP support needs to be rewritten. I've noticed that kio_imap4 is still running even when KMail is closed which means it still shows up errors saying it can't contact my IMAP server which make the situation even more irritating. KMail's IMAP support is just very slow (especially deleting, retrieving and updating) but it isn't my connection because it's a hundred-times faster on other mail clients such as Sylpheed.

Many thanks! :-)

please update to 3.1.4 before doing your final judgement. In general bug reports about
"it needs to be rewritten" are hardly useable - beside if you provide a patch.
