Description Kurt Hindenburg 2004-05-16 20:37:50 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 20031218 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.2-r5, propolice-3.3-7)
OS: Linux

I have konsole on 80x25 size. When I hide the KDE panel, konsole window expands downward the height of the hidden panel. This is the behavior expected if the konsole window was maximized. However, konsole is not maximized and thus shouldn't change sizes.
After expanding, konsole size is 80x27 as reported in the size/custom dialog.

This happens to all windows, not only konsole, when they are close to kicker. It only happens if the bottom of the window are 80 pixels or less from the top of kicker. Same thing and distance when kicker are at the top of the screen.

If you have kicker either left or right on the screen the application expands sideways if the distance to kicker are in the are 110-100 pixels or less.

Tested on CVS 2005-02-14 and KDE 3.2.3.

I agree, this is pretty annoying. I just played around a little with different panel settings, and now all the window sizes are trashed:( Kwin should never resize a window, unless there is no other way i.e. the window is bigger than the desktop, horizontally or vertically. Instead it should just move the windows, when they are close to the desktop border.

And even if they have to be resized, the size(and position) should actually be restored when the desktop grows back to the original size. Maybe kwin could remember size and position for all desktop sizes a window has gone through? This would also fix the problems with xrandr(which was basically unusable last time I tried).
