Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 3.3.1 OS: Linux If .../share/config/kdm/Xservers doesn't exist, the installation process generates one with the line: ":0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X vt7" which will render the console inoperable. IMO the virtual console should not be specified at all, leaving the X server to take the first free one. If on a system #7 is free, it will be used without explicit specification and without locking up all other systems.
yeah, but i can't simply remove it, as then we get bug #13637, bug #27965, bug #28446, bug #29051, bug #29067, bug #31621, bug #45478, ... need more? :) i'm planning to obsolete the Xservers file - the minimal vt to use will be specified at only one place in kdmrc; i'll possibly make genkdmconf clever enough to initialize this value according to /etc/inittab (sysv style) or /etc/ttys (bsd style).
