Description alistair 2004-02-05 11:30:52 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r1, propolice)
OS: Linux

I have a Canon PowerShot A30. When I add it to the camera control panel it is not saved when I open it again. Also I cannot access it from Konqueror. I have checked that the camera works (if I click "test" it says it is successful, and it can get correct statistics from the camera). Also I am able to download/delete photos using gtkam (A frontend for gphoto2, upon which I believe this software is based). If you need any further info please contact me, I am happy to provide more info but i'm not exactly sure what you need.
Comment 1 Marcus Meissner 2004-02-12 09:04:10 UTC
Does any other camera show up if you open camera:/ ?

usb cameras should be autodetected, so they do not need to be saved.
Comment 2 B 2004-02-12 19:25:31 UTC
no camera shows up in my camera:/ after i do the the settings...

Comment 3 Marcus Meissner 2004-02-12 19:33:23 UTC
what shows up if you run gphoto2 --auto-detect ?

It should :/
Comment 4 B 2004-02-12 20:53:50 UTC
I can use digikam fine for my image uploading.. It uses gphoto2 ..
Is that sufficient?

after I do gphoto2 --auto-detect I get no camera listed in camera:/

Comment 5 alistair 2004-02-21 09:56:12 UTC
If I do camera:/ nothing shows up. gphoto2 --auto-detect detects the camera as a "Canon PowerShot A30" on port "usb:". As I said I do not have a problem using a different frontend to gphoto2, it's just that the kde integration would be nice :) When I add the camera manually using the control centre it is detected fine and I can click the "Information" button to get some (correct) information about the camera, but I cannot access it at all using Konqueror.
Comment 6 Matthew Crane 2004-03-05 17:16:30 UTC
I am having the same problem with my Canon PowerShot A70 as alistair. Hotplugging appears to be working fine - gphoto2 talks to the camera with no problems auto-detecting or copying .JPGs. But NOTHING shows up in konq when I enter "camera:/" in the location bar - just an empty page where the camera's files should be in the browswer pane. When I click the Control Center "Test" and "Information" buttons, everything looks to be fine. FWIW, this problem appears to be new in KDE 3.2. I had no problems with the kioslave in 3.1.4.
Comment 7 Marcus Meissner 2004-03-05 17:34:39 UTC
can you press reload and see if it changes?
Comment 8 Matthew Crane 2004-03-05 21:20:40 UTC
Pressing reload in konq doesn't make a difference. Still left with a blank browser pane.

patch to fix problem in 3.2 CVS
Comment 10 Marcus Meissner 2004-03-06 13:39:35 UTC
fixed in 3.2 branch
Comment 11 alistair 2004-03-10 13:15:47 UTC
The supplied patch has fixed the problem, thanks for your work!
Comment 12 Michael Murphy 2004-03-26 04:12:26 UTC
Rex Dieter of the kde-redhat project reports that he has applied this patch to his current build of kdegraphics-3.2.1-0.fdr.3.rh73, which I use, and yet I continue to experience the problems described here.

As with the others reporting problems, my camera is a Canon, it works
with gtkam, flPhoto, and digikam. kcontrol > Peripherals > Digital
Camera allows me to successfully add/test the camera, and
gphoto2 --auto-detect happily reports:

Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
Canon PowerShot A40 usb:

Yet kde 'forgets' the camera's been added -- a return visit to kcontrol
shows no camera and Konqueror can't connect to it.

This bug has been listed as 'resolved.' I'm unfamiliar with the
protocol at bugs.kde.org. Will adding this new comment reactivate it, or
must I create a new bug report?
Comment 13 Rex Dieter 2004-03-26 12:41:59 UTC
reopening...
Comment 14 Rex Dieter 2004-03-26 12:42:48 UTC
Michael,
could you confirm the problem with a different user/login?
Comment 15 Marcus Meissner 2004-03-26 14:07:13 UTC
which KDE do you use.
this is fixed in 3.2.1!
Comment 16 Michael Murphy 2004-03-26 14:55:35 UTC
Rex: Confirmed with different userid/login. Same kcontrol and konqueror behaviors as under my own userid. With all userid's, entering camera:/Canon PowerShot A40/ in konqueror results in the cursor's changing to a pointer with clock icon and sitting there forever doing nothing (as long as the cursor is within konqueror's window that is). No error report, no timeout, ... no nothing.

Marcus: 3.2.1-0.fdr.4.rh73.

i just checked and I think I was 1 or 2 days too late for the 3.2.1 release.

it will be in 3.2.2 I think.
Comment 19 Rex Dieter 2004-03-28 20:13:58 UTC
FYI, we (specifically Michael) are using the patch you mention in comment #9, and are still having problems. That is, unless, you have made cvs changes in addition to comment #9's patch.
Comment 20 Marcus Meissner 2004-03-28 22:36:12 UTC
I have missed the same patch for kcontrol ...

I have now applied the same to kcontrol.

patch to fix problem
Comment 22 Thomas Schoepf 2004-03-29 14:11:57 UTC
FWIW: Same here. Kde 3.2.1 konqueror (Debian unstable) is unable to find my Canon Digital Ixus v3 usb camera. Everything before 3.2 worked fine.
Comment 23 Thomas Schoepf 2004-03-29 19:43:31 UTC
Addition: installing gtkam made konqueror find my camera...
Comment 24 Giovanni Venturi 2004-04-04 14:37:09 UTC
With the KDE_3_2_BRANCH of 31 march the bug exixts yet. I cannot access to my camera with Konqueror and from Control Center I cannot set my camera. I seems ok, but If I click again I see no camera fixed.
Comment 25 Philipp Lehman 2004-04-17 18:53:01 UTC
Reading the comments I'm not sure if this issue has been fixed in CVS, but I can confirm this bug for 3.2.1.

I'm testing with a Canon PowerShot A60 connected via USB. There are two issues:

1) kcmkamera

The camera does not show up automatically in the camera list. If I add it explicitly and test it, the test is successful. But as soon as I save the settings, close the kcmkamera module and open it again, the list is empty. Yet in kio_camerarc I find the following:

[Canon PowerShot A60]
Model=Canon PowerShot A60
Path=usb:

2) kio_kamera

When entering camera:/ in konqueror to browse for cameras I always get an empty list. But if I type camera://Canon PowerShot A60@[usb:]/ explicitly, I do get access to the camera and can view, copy, and delete images just fine. The camera also works fine with gphoto2 from the command line (auto detection, downloading files etc.).
Comment 26 Philipp Lehman 2004-04-17 19:28:25 UTC
Ah, I just applied the two patches attached to comment #9 and #21. This fixes both problems mentioned in comment #25!

I've just upgraded to 3.2.2 on redhat 7.3 using the kde-redhat project's packages. I can confirm that both kcontrol and konqueror are working properly now with my Canon. Thanks you, Marcus, for the fix. Thank you, Rex, for the packaging.
Comment 29 Marcus Meissner 2006-04-19 09:13:38 UTC
