Try turning on realtime priority in aRts.

There is no maximum, only ON and OFF. Please check again, you probably just changed the output buffer size.

Seems to be fixed in 3.1.95
Also realtime priority only works if "artswrapper" is setuid root (only apps run by root can gain realtime-priority, at least on linux) As it seems to work now (I guess it was just bad packaging or something) I'll close it with reason WORKSFORME. Please reopen in case of new trouble but first make sure your artsd is really running with realtime-priority (only few systems work fine without that setting).
