Description Beat Fasel 2003-08-17 02:13:29 UTC
Version: 2.1 (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

It would be nice to have Kompare available in the tools menu of Konqueror or alternatively in a context menu. Like this one could highlight two files in Konqueror and then launch Kompare from the tools menu or from a context menu of Konqueror.

Justification:
I often have to compare many files situated in different locations. However, currently, in order to compare them, I have to browse to these files via the file open menu of Kompare. While the latter approach is well suited to compare just two files, it is cumbersome to use when comparing many files.

Thanks for Kompare. It is a fine application!

This may be possible with some tweaks to kdelibs but afaik the files need to be in the same directory for it to work. Cant say if it will work with split view or so. I'll have to ask David some time. But since it requires soime changes to kdelibs dont expect anything before 3.3 unfortunately. The change to the stuff in kdelibs is basically a new feature and those are forbidden since sept 1 if they were not in the feature plan. I didn't think about this bug until today.

I filled bug #79692 with related optimization suggestion, giving maybe more details on how one could resolve the problem of selecting the two files. Initially I even considered adding those suggestions here but finally decided that I offer different solution for the same task so filled it separately.

whilst #79692 offers a differenct solution, it's still the same problem, so i'm marking this as a dupe of #79692. I know that's backwards, but i'd like to marcin's your evaluation of the options for solving this in the open report for this issue.

gah. that should have read: "but i'd like to keep marcin's evaluation of the options for solving this in the open report for this issue. "
