Description josephm 2002-06-19 02:51:27 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kjs
Version: 4.0 (using KDE 3.0.2 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-4
OS/Compiler notes:

This bug is related to bug #43795. There are javascript menus on http://online.wsj.com/home/us (or www.wsj.com if you get a login page) that currently show the menu in its own page. Bug #43795 fixed the crash from these menus and it would be great if now the menus could be rendered properly on top of the current page instead of their own page.

To reproduce:
1) Go to http://online.wsj.com/home/us (or www.wsj.com if you get a login page)
2) Mouse over any of the dark blue topics on the middle left side of the page ("Technology" "Markets" "Your Money" "Opinion" "At Leisure").
3) The javascript menu will now appear in its own page.

Again if you get a login page try www.wsj.com instead. You should be able to see the main page but clicking on any links will take you to a login page. This doesn't affect the javascript menu bug however.

A quick fix would be to not show the popup menus at all. Mozilla 0.9.9 takes this approach. The page will work fine even if the popup doesn't show.

For an example of how the menus should work use Netscape 4.7x.

This bug was noticed while using KDE_3_0_BRANCH from 18 June 2002 (almost KDE 3.0.2). The bug is also present in the latest cvs HEAD checkout from 18 June 2002.

Use

http://online.wsj.com/public/us

instead of

http://online.wsj.com/home/us

This will help avoid the log in mess. Thanks!
