(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) It would seem that the bug #20228 - disappearing desktop icon has reappeared in KDE 3.0. When I start the system I sometime lose my icon for different objects (i.e. trash). I click on properties and the icon is empty. If I put one there kill KDE and then start it up again the new one does not appear either. It is just one or two icons that disappear. And it does not happen all the time. And it is not always the same icons. Sometimes if I reboot the entire system they show up. Shutting down KDE and starting it again has no effect. I am not sure if I said this but the text for the icon is still present it is just the graphics of the icon itself that is missing. (Knoppix/Debian) $ kdesktop -v Qt: 3.2.3 KDE: 3.1.5 KDesktop: v1.9.8 Lost all desktop icons when drag&drop copying a file from konqueror window to a desktop folder. Found this bug report. Running kdesktop from user konsole restored desktop and seemingly normal functionality. The only /var/log/messages entry at the time was GConf server is not in use, shutting down. Exiting.
Comment #4 sounds like a crashed kdesktop, but this was not happening for the original reporter (text was still there). As there are no other reports like this, it seems to not occur anymore.
Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
