(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kwin Version: KDE 2.2.2 Severity: wishlist Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: Not Specified OS: Not Specified OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified In the KDE 1.x series the KDE window manager allowed to set certain window properties such as window decorations and the window state (start maximized omnipresent window etc.) based on the window class. Unfortunately this feature was removed in the 2.x series. At the moment there is only kstart which partly provides this functionality. But apart from being much less convenient to use (it has to be started each and every time) it is less reliable since it picks windows based on their title. It doesn't work for applications which change the window title (e.g. a terminal app that supports using the login name and/or the working dir in the title) or which pop the window up/down (e.g. a mail notifier which only brings up a window when new mail arrives). I miss the original feature present in KDE 1.x a lot. It is provided by window managers such as window maker and I would appreciate it if kwin were to support that again. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
