(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: korganizer Version: 2.1 (using KDE 2.2.1 ) Severity: wishlist Installed from: Debian Package 4:2.2.1-14 (testing/unstable) Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20011006 (Debian prerelease) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.12-ac3 OS/Compiler notes: I would like to have a one your or a half-year view with all days marked (maybe different signs or colors for different categories) for which entries are saved. Background: I'm computer teacher and i have some courses which are held once a week and last some week (for example 8 weeks). I want something to overlook all my courses for at least half a year so i'm able to plan new courses and the like. I most like a format in landscape with 6 colums one colum for each month. This should be big enough to show (in each colum) one line with about 0.5 cm height for each day. Of course this also should be printable. Thanks in advance Stefan. I would also like to see half year or even year views !! This can be very helpful, when you need to view all events ranging over a long peruiod of time, especially when filtered using categories: e.g. you can view all "ill" days you had over one year ! You can view (and count) all days you used public transportation to work, You can print all vacation days over a certain period ! etc. I think this yould be very useful !!! The View - List dialog together wirth the filters are already in place and serve for that purpose, but just for a maximum of one month !!!! (I am using KDE 3.1, so korganizer 3.1 on Debian Woody)

A year view with selective/filtered highlighting would *really* be a distinguishing feature and *extremely* helpful I think... To extend the suggestion above a bit, it would be handy to allow the user to type in a string to use as the filter in addition to the categor(ies). That way one could catch events that the user might have forgotten to categorize ;), but might still want to filter from the database. Maybe a pull down on the left and an entry field on the right in the year view, such as : Filter Value --------------------------- All *Filter on text entered in the entrybox on all fields* Category1 If (empty) then *all* Category1, else *filter* Category1 on entry Category2 If (empty) then *all* Category2, else *filter* Category2 on entry Category3 If (empty) then *all* Category3, else *filter* Category3 on entry . . --------- Custom Kick off wizard to allow user to add custom filter to list which nails up the values of selected fields and selects the color to highlight the dates for the given filter. ... so the combination of the two would be very powerful. The pulldown gives you a simple search if you will, that can be further refined by entering text in the textbox. Further, the user can add new filters to the list and perhaps pass those along to others. Don't know if there would be room, but if the user selects "All," then some color key with the filter/category names would be handy to show.

I'm a student, and I think a year view is a good idea. In fact, I've found this webpage while searching a How-To for this purpose. I think this can be laid out with a 12(or less colomns)×31(rows) table, each cell showing only first letters of the calendar entries. Maybe a tooltip should be useful too to show a complete day events. For my use in fact, the utility for this feature should be to quickly view my holidays, my exams, and deadlines for my school works.. So I also think the first column should not be locked to January for two reasons : - possibility to show only a few next months for small screen-size users - possibility to show a period like September to June (very useful for students, at least french ones) Thanks for this software, Anthony LOISEAU

I definitely second this. This is one of the most important features for me in a calendar as I have to plan ahead for almost a whole year! But I wouldn't like it like the mockup image below, as this is not expressive enough. A good example of how this feature could look like is Lotus Organizer. One could add events, see week-long events, and the like...
