Description David Talmage 2011-06-09 21:54:10 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS: Linux

The OpenDesktop widget used to work for me. Sometime in the Kubuntu 10.04 era, I think, it stopped. Even now, with Kubuntu 11.04, it is still broken.

On startup, the widget displays the three tabs "Nearby", "Friends", and "Messages", as expected. The configuration panel shows my OpenDesktop.org username and obscured password. Upon closing the configuration tab, the widget displays more "Friends" and "Messages" tabs. There are now three of each for a total of seven tabs in this order: Nearby, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages. All of the tabs are empty. Now the configuration panel shows neither username nor password for OpenDesktop.org.

It is expected that the "Friends" and "Messages" tabs are empty because I have no friends on OpenDesktop.org and no one ever leaves me messages there. However, I expect to see a few people in "Nearby" because OpenDesktop.org shows them to me when I log in with my web browser.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. If the widget is on the desktop, then delete it and add it to the desktop.
2. Observe the three tabs: Nearby, Friends, Messages.
3. Observe that no one is nearby.
4. Click the configuration button.
5. Observe your OpenDesktop.org username and obscured password.
6. Enter your location.
7. Observe that you can't publish it.
8. Click OK.
9. Observe that there are now three "Friends" tabs and three "Messages" tabs.
10. Click the configuration button.
11. Observe that there is neither username nor password.
12. Look at your location.
13. Observe that the "Publish my location" button is no longer disabled.
14. Push the Publish button.
15. Observe that all of the tabs are still empty. You can wait all day and nothing will change.
When I click on the widget again, it there are more tabs! "Friends" and "Messages" are repeated twice each, giving me seven tabs: Nearby, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages.
When I click on the configuration button again, the username and password fields are empty.

Actual Results:
Seven tabs appeared: Nearby, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages, Friends, Messages.

The OpenDesktop.org username and password disappeared from the configuration panel.

The "Nearby" tab displayed no one, even though OpenDesktop.org knows of people who are near me.

Expected Results:
Non-empty "Nearby" tab.
One instance of each tab.
Username and obscured password retained by the configuration dialog.

Please report only one issue per bug number. Can you check if what you see is the same as reported on bug 254348 and bug 227549?

I see your point. In my defense, all symptoms occur at the same time so it felt like one but.

My report duplicates bug 254348.

My report is similar but not identical to bug 227549.
