Description Chris Keane 2001-06-08 09:30:12 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: 2.2-0.alpha2.1
Severity: wishlist

I very much like the way kmail highlights folders with unread
messages in the folder list. However it'd be nice if the highlight
colour could distinguish different types of message status. So for
example:

 - if a folder contains "new" messages the folder highlight should
   be the "new" colour
 - otherwise if the folder contains "unread" messages the highlight
   should be the "unread" colour
 - otherwise if it contains "flagged" messages the highlight should
   be the "flagged" colour

Would this be easy to do?

On a related note would it be possible to add an option to prevent
"new" messages from automatically changing to "unread" when I leave a
folder? It's confusing to have messages changing status without my
having done anything to them. Maybe it's just me but to me "new"
means "I haven't read this message at all" and "unread" means "I had
a quick glance at the message and then marked it unread to remind me
to go back and read it properly later". So it'd be nice if messages
just stayed "new" until I read them.

Thanks for a great mailer by the way!

I vote for the colours, not the side note
Comment 3 Christian Boltz 2005-06-26 21:17:24 UTC
I vote for the side note especially ;-)
It would be really good if "new" mails keep their "new" state when changing to another folder.

i also vote for the colors, and not the side note.

for me, even a simpler approach will do:

have one additional color for flagged messages. keep the rest displaying in bold letters. this way it is possible to distinguish folders containing both new/unread (bold) AND flagged (colored) messages from folders containing only new/unread OR flagged (colored) messages.

It would be a very good idea if in the folder list we can see where we have new message and were we have unread message.
I do like very much the difference between new message and unread ones. Please keep it.
