Description S. Burmeister 2011-01-26 22:32:15 UTC
Version: 2.9.7 (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

If one has the panel at the top of the screen and lets yakuake fade in and out via F12 there is some graphics garbage remaining on an intel chipset.

You might have to press F12 a few times to get the garbage.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry, but sounds like an obvious driver bug, don't see what I could do about that.

I have nvidia card and exactly same situation. Was going to record it but on the movie (xvidcap) it looks almost ok. Anyway — pressing F12 to open yakuake makes top plasma panel transparent. Only refreshed icons/widget are redrawn there.

Using Arch Linux with just updated KDE 4.6.

I have the same issues with KDE SC 4.6.0, Archlinux x86_64 ans intel chipset. This started directly after the update, it never was a problem with KDE SC 4.5.x

Have you actally tried to reproduce it?

Forget what I said, it's a plasma problem. If you set "Windows may cover control bar" on the bar settings, there is no garbage anymore...

Sure I tried to reproduce it (and couldn't). But you know, this is not a Yakuake bug no matter whether I can reproduce it or not, because Yakuake doesn't have control over panel painting or desktop compositing/screen refresh, which is why I closed the bug as INVALID. Even if there is a bug, there's nothing that can be done about it from the Yakuake side, nor is Yakuake in any way responsible for it.

FWIW, there's a similar bug report, bug 264765. It's unclear whether this comes down to the same issue or not, because it's about Yakuake 2.9.8 with the new kwin-assisted OpenGL animation strategy. Martin (from the kwin team) thinks it's a bug in kwin's sliding popups effect; if so it couldn't be the same issue since that effect isn't in play in your case. Regardless, I'll reference this bug in the other as well in case there's a common cause anyway.
