+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #177867 +++ Version: 1:2.0.1-1ubuntu1 (using KDE 4.1.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I've experienced a couple of times kile randomly crashing when trying to save a file. No bug report has been opened but instead the saved file was incomplete missing a third of the file or so. The backup file <name>.tex~ was intact but naturally did not contain the latest changes. I've seen Bug #94807 and #174237 looking similar but they refer to old versions of kile. Bug #177876 said to does not look like a kile bug so I guess it is kdelibs then.

This is a Qt 3 bug, the Kile version that you used was still a KDE 3 application. I am not sure if Qt Software is willing to fix Qt 3, so you could try the KDE 4 port of Kile (version 2.1) from your distributions repositories.
