Version: SVN r834059 (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources When the task manager is placed in the panel and is completely filled, there's nearly no way to open the 'Task Manager Settings' dialog. With some luck you find a 1px wide area at the very edge, where it reacts on the rightclick with the applet's context menu. Possible solution: - Add the 'Task Manager Settings' menu item to the context menus which appear when clicking on a task manager item. The item should be placed on top of this menu to keep the 'Close' entry accessible in the usual fast way.
iirc this was discussed before, and someone wanted to add that stuff to the task contextmenus, but then found out it was harder than he thought... personally I'd like to see some sort of applethandle offering config/remove when the panel configurator is open.

when the panel controller is open you can right click on any applet and get the applet menu.
Just a comment, can't we find a better, more smart and visible to the user, way to configure applets in the panel? In the desktop there is the configure button next to the plasmoid (when plasmoids are unlocked), but on panel it's kind of less obvious... Should I open a bug/wish for changing this behavior? Thanks.
on the panel we also have a lot less room to work with. i really like the concept of entering a more interactive mode by click on the toolbox button. making that more obvious is a matter of documentation and education. i would like to eventually see some buttons or what not apear on applets when the panel toolbox is opened, but that has a number of challenges (size of applets, clarity of buttons, not wanting to overload things too much..)
Well, if the options were global (for all applets) we could add a "configure" option in the plasmoids list, like in Firefox extension dialog. As I supose is not the case, what about handlers, like there was in KDE3? I really like those and miss them. But they could be visible only in the panel "edit-mode", much like the ones in the desktop. I'll try to create some mockups and think about it better, I'm not very happy about current "edit-mode" of panel. For example, resizing is only natural for those who used a typewriter or a office text editor.
"if the options were global" which obviously makes no sense. "what about handlers, like there was in KDE3? I really like those and miss them. But they could be visible only in the panel "edit-mode"," didn't i just say that in my previous reply? quote: i would like to eventually see some buttons or what not apear on applets when the panel toolbox is opened "resizing is only natural for those who used a typewriter or a office text editor" well, "nobody" uses typewriters, but pretty much everyone that uses a computer has used a word processor. there is, however, a reason why the interface for margins hasn't really changed much in the last 100 years or more. that said, try and come up with a system that actually provides the necessary controls that is more ergonomic. we're always looking for improvements.
Actually the problems remains, even if we talk about typewriters ... if the taskbar is full with application an unexperienced user won't be able to get access to the taskbar settings and might think it does not exist. I am using KDE beyond 4.0 and I was suprised that it is able to get the settings, if the toolbox is opened. This is definitly no way a normal user would try (tested it with two 60 year aged users). Especially with the new grouping function and multirow support there will be more users, that will search for the options. Of course there might come some nice improvments that are more natural for the users, but I would suggest to put access to the settings in the context menu of a task. An experienced coder might find it easy to add and it would be a very helpfull workarround before something better comes arround...
This problem remains in KDE 4.2.0. I had to use google to find out how to get to 'Task Manager Settings'. Both ways (clicking the pixel between two tasks and cashew->right-click) are almost impossible to discover, given that your taskbar is full. Perhaps the problem could be alleviated by including a link to 'Task Manager Settings' in 'System Settings', which was also a place I went through before resorting to google. Another option would be to add some 5-10px decorative area to one or both sides of the taskbar (left and right sides in the case of horizontal taskbar), which could be used to get to 'Task Manager Settings'. Cheers and keep up the good work.

(In reply to comment #11) > *** Bug 203012 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I entered a duplicate bug and I just copy past my suggestions for possible resolution here : * right click wherever on window list could bring the "task manager setting" in addition to window list options. * could be nice to be able to reach the plasma widget configure options from "Add Widgets" window.
another way to save space would be to put "label text" optional.
I think this is the same bug as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199931
